Louie's heart belongs to the circus. More than that she knows she is destined to walk the tight rope - she will be a show stopper. She has the talent and the determination. Why then are all the adults in her life - circus master, Mr Chipchase and her guardian, Jasper, so set against it? Then there is the mystery about her mother's disappearance. When rival owner, Mr Wellbeloved offers to make her dreams of performing come true, she sees this as a chance not only to shine but to uncover the truth. But things are not always as they seem. Very much in the tradition of such writers as Streatfeild, Ibbotson and McKay, this is an adventure that will both capture the imagination and warm the heart. Louie is a strong character, not without fault, but attractive in her determination both to realise her ambition and to support her friends. Young readers will hold their breath as she walks ‘on air’. The circus background is unusual providing credibility to both characters and the adventure - and the villain. Assured plotting and lively style make this an ideal offering for readers who are looking for exciting, enjoyable, satisfying adventures that will engage the attention. This one ticks all the boxes - Emma Carroll is an author to watch.
