A little owl stays awake during the day when all owls should be asleep and is amazed by the beautiful colours she sees as the day unfolds. First there is the wonderfully pink sky as dawn breaks, followed by the yellow glow spread by the risen sun and the grey of a rain shower followed by a rainbow, right up to the dark of night lit by the stars.

Each page opening shows a different colour-infused scene and little owl’s delight. The landscape format of the book suits the depiction of an unfolding day. The illustrations which combine collage and artwork are in a retro style reminiscent of the ‘60s and have a pleasantly child-friendly focus that will appeal to very young readers. There is a lot for adult and child to talk about in this inviting introduction to owls, times of day and especially colours.

Good for a wow factor with children as well as owls!
